Reflection

The children call me "Ms. Collett". I started Yunaland in November of 2011. After waiting 12 years to be blessed with my son, I found myself with the dilemma of wanting to be a stay-at-home mom. I had dreamed for years of opening a daycare. I spent the first 5 years of my career in the Social Services field working with disadvantaged families. Followed by 22 years in the corporate world, where I learnt valuable skills that I use to run my company. My son was the catalyst that allowed me to realize my passion, my calling.

Yunaland is my vision of providing a fun learning environment for children. An environment where they can imagine, and manage their individual idea of "fun" and "play" — learn through self-directed play. For parents, I hope to provide a "home away from home" environment. Peace of mind. I know how hard it is to drop your children and go. Provide flexible services that are affordable for every family.

I am a Christian lady, and I am so grateful to my mother for this upbringing. The daily decisions I make for Yunaland are governed by my Christian principles. Yunaland is not just a business for me, but my passion, my purpose. I am truly blessed to be able to "work" at my passion. I get asked a lot: "how do you do this every day?" I always answer: "how can I not?" The irony — I set out to do my little part in the "village" to teach children. I smile, because I found out very quickly that I learn so much from the children.

I strive to make Yunaland the best Centre possible, and I will continue to work towards excellence. I humbly thank you for the opportunity to assist with your childcare needs. It is a huge responsibility and one that I do not take lightly.
